Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Error

Are you getting any error while opening any file with your dreamweaver ?

Generally after using dreamweaver for a long time few of its config file crashes and that provides some alerts and errors while trying to open any file using dreamwever.

Errors like

1-> While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: In file "Design Notes_onOpen"
onOpen is not defined.

2-> While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: In file "Design Notes_onOpen"
onOpen is not defined.

3-> While executing onLoad in RecordsetFind.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: In file "RecordsetFind" findRs is not defined.

The above errors comes due to some mis-configuration or mainly due to file crash.

To avoid getting these errors please follow these steps.

1- Tools->Folder Options->Show Hidden Files and Folder (Make sure the option for showing hidden files and folders are on)

2- Then open your user account and then the configuration directory.

ex of url would be :: C:\Documents and Settings\{USER_NAME}\Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration

From here delete WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat file

3-> Restart your dreamweaver, and it should work for you. If it doesn't work, leave a comment here and we will find out other ways too.

  1. I try to delete WinFileCache-3012BA81.dat file many time but it still show the same message. Please give me more idea.

  2. Hello Ray,

Would you mind telling me what are the alert and error messages you are getting ?

  3. Thanks I solved the problem immediatly

  4. worked for me! thanks!

  5. I still get the same error message:

While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: In file “Design Notes_onOpen”
    onOpen is not defined.

    Thanks for your help.

  6. (sorry it took so long to get back to you!)

    Yes, I have.

  7. I use a Mac and I’m having the same problem.

    I get this:
While executing onLoad in Design Notes_onOpen.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occured: In file “Design Notes_onOpen”
    onOpen is not defined.

    And this:
The following translators were not loaded due to errors:
ASP.htm: has configuration information that is invalid.
Server Model SSI.htm: has configuration information that is invalid

I tried all the steps on this page http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19105.html

    Remarks:

    It’s not site specific.
    It’s not page specific.

    Regarding step n° 4 which is delete FileCache.dat , WinFileCache-7A9586CB.dat (Windows) and MacFileCache-BFE7CE2E.dat (Mac) :
None of those files can be found on my Mac.
I did not delete those files. They’re not on my Mac.

    Regarding Step n° 8.
I did use a special character in my path but I removed it. Path is ok now.
    But it didn’t help.

Reg. step n° 10. We’re told to look for special extensions but I have none.

Reg step n° 12. I use Dreamweaver CS4, which is version 10. So this step is of no use.

Reg step n° 13. Request to run in selective or diagnostic mode can not be done because it refers to older versions of dreamweaver. Not CS4

One last remark about your answer:
1- Tools->Folder Options->Show Hidden Files and Folder (Make sure the option for showing hidden files and folders are on)
Where can I find Tools -> Folder Options ?
This relates to the removal of the .dat file, which I can’t seem to find.

  8. Found it!

When you’re on a Mac you shouldn’t look for the file.
What you need to do is change a name.

    Follow this path :

Macintosh HD/Users/your user name goes here/Library/Application
    Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/Configuration

Change the name configuration into xconfiguration !

Important: do not directly go to your applications folder and change it there. That won’t work!
Follow the right path , which is library / …

    Woohoow !!

  9. Thank you very much 🙂 I follow the instruction and it’s working fine for me.

  10. Manjeet Singh says:

  12. i deleted winfilecache, and i still get Javascript Error…onopen
    is not defined…Please help me

    • Dude, most of the time it works after deleting those cache files. Try repeating the same process few times, if not I think there is no other go rather than re-installing DW 🙁

  13. Thank you very much. I solved this issue.

  14. Deleting the dat file worked for me.

  15. Paul Bevan says:

you MUST follow the path to the configuration file in your user area, as the other guy said don’t go directly to the application folder because the file isn’t there.

so for me on XP its C:\Documents and Settings\me\ etc etc

this confused me for 10 mins!

  16. @kris You’re the man. Couldn’t find any cache file, but the renaming of the config file worked!

  17. hi,
