Configuring Dreamweaver for .mod .ctp .thtml files

It used to irritate when our favorite CMS, Frameworks file extensions are not editable with our best editors with syntax highlighting option. Fortunately Dreamweaver has the option to configure these extensions such that they can be edited as php files.

Here are the steps.

1-> Locate your dreamweaver installation directory

ex – C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4

2-> Open the folder configuration in it.

3-> Open the file Extensions.txt from it

Find HTM,HTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML:HTML Documents
and append MODULE, THTML, CTP to it.

Now it may look like

HTM,HTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML,MODULE,CTP,THTML:HTML Documents

Now Find

PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,TPL:PHP Files
append MODULE, THTML, CTP to it

Now it may look like

PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,TPL,MODULE,THTML,CTP:PHP Files

Now save the Extensions.txt file and close it.

4-> Now locate DocumentTypes directory in configuration directory that you have opened.

Ex path – C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\DocumentTypes

5-> From the DocumentTypes folder find and open MMDocumentTypes.xml file

Now in MMDocumentTypes.xml find

<documenttype id="PHP_MySQL" servermodel="PHP MySQL" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,inc" macfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,inc" file="Default.php" writebyteordermark="false">
see the attribute winfileextension and macfileextension
append ,module,ctp,thtml to it.
Now it may look like
<documenttype id="PHP_MySQL" servermodel="PHP MySQL" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,inc,module,ctp,thtml" macfileextension="php,php3,php4,php5,inc,module,ctp,thtml" file="Default.php" writebyteordermark="false">

Finally :: Now save the file and restart your dreamweaver with any of these thtml, ctp or module files and you can see the syntax highlighting there.

Thats it you are done.

Let me know if you have any issues in configuring this. I will gladly help you. Thanks
