How to login as root user in Amazon EC2, Ubuntu

Following are the steps that can be followed to login to Ubuntu in Amazon EC2 as a root user.

Step 1 – Open putty.exe, can be downloaded from – http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html

Step 2 – Under Session, enter IP Address / Your domain name as HOST name

Step 3 – Under Connection -> Data, enter ubuntu as user name

Step 4 – Under Connection -> SSH -> Auth – Browse and choose the perm ppk certificate. Amazon generally let you download the .pem certificate which you need to convert to ppk certificate using puttygen.exe.

Step 5 – Now you will be logged in automatically.

Step 6- Enter the command sudo su this command will enable the root user mode, it wont ask you for a password.
